About San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende is a 16th Century Mexican-Spanish Colonial town founded in 1542 by Fray Juan de San Miguel. It was an important stopover on the Antiguo Camino Real, part of the silver mine route between Guanajuato, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosi. One of its sons, Ignacio Allende was a hero in the war of independence in 1810 with the city being named after him.

With its well preserved buildings and cobblestone streets nestled in the heartland of central Mexico among the rolling hills of Sierra Madre, San Miguel de Allende is a city where colonial Mexico has been remarkably preserved. A city like no other San Miguel can offer from the best world dining to a simple taco from a sidewalk vendor.

Long known as an artist colony, San Miguel offers its visitors an extraordinary array of concerts, plays, galleries as well as language and art classes. With its pleasant weather warm sunny days, cool nights and low humidity the temperatures range between 65 and 85 degrees year round.
